SU-I shelter hatches are designed to withstand an explosion pressure of >900 kPa (9 bar) (outward opening) in accordance with current technical standards for civil defense shelters. The hatch flange is constructed from beams reinforced with cladding plates. The doors can be upgraded with armor plates for shrapnel/ballistic protection and special materials for fire resistance.SU-I hatches feature a multi-point locking system with a gear mechanism that provides advanced protection against blast wave pressure, as well as a rubber gasket for gas tightness.
